Flex and Java quick jump start for who needs to learn

Filed under Flex, Flex Beyound basic, Flex Data Services, Flex with Java, General announcements

Yesterday, I received my copy of RIA with Adobe and Flex from SYS-CON editorial, and I admit that for first sentence the book gave me a good idea on how to work better with FDS and Java for serialization and Ascyncmenssage , other topics I took a little while and got extra work and points on how to extend default components.

The book’s also send you the sessions at the Last Flex Seminars in NY where people like  ( David Mendels, Jesse Warden and the guys at Farata System are in).

I’ve been quite observing and reading the posts of Yakov Fain at their blog. And there’s a planty of them in their blog talking about the process of how to develop better with Flex and Java, their DAOFlex for Flex Builder also is mentioned in the book too.
The next generation of old Flex Data Services now Live Cycle Data Services will help you better understand why Flex and Java has more interesting things working together. Download the LCDS and explore the new features on the Labs.
The books help’s you get not only the basics of Layout and how to design Flex Applications but get in extra explanation for advanced development, like Yakov said the books is target on High Large software Application.

You might read this book for flex and java development process, not only related to Java but who works with Flex needs to read it.

This weekend after spider-man 3 I will review more chapter and see what the real benefits of books can get in my own works here and for sure in the beginner review the book ROCKs!

Thanks Engin to send me a copy of this book and for sure will be showed in my presentations for the Java Community.

I recommend developers learning Flex 2.0 NOT purchase this book. I purchased this book and have had many problems trying to get the code examples to work.

    See:
    http://www.nodans.com/index.cfm/2007/4/12/Great-New-Flex-book-Rich-Internet-Applications-with-Adobe-Flex-and-Java

for more details about chapters where I’ve found problems with the code examples.

Additionally, this book is for intermediate to advanced Flex developers. If you are just starting out learning Flex, this is not the book for you. The authors expect readers to be familiar with the Flex components (DataGrid, List, etc) and how to write ActionScript classes.

Also to work through many of the examples you will need to understand Java and have a Java application server running. The backend for the examples are written in Java and use Java to connect to the databases.

Lastly, you will need to install and configure Flex Data Services to run the examples.

I’ve read through chapter 13 and worked my way through most of the code examples (to find many of them don’t work).

Again, for the above reasons, I recommend against the purchase of this book.
